So far so good.

I knew I was taking a chance buying a remanufactured item. But after reading mixed reviews of just about every blender out there I decided it was worth the risk. The impression that I came away with was that almost every maker of blenders occasionally shipped a stinker and that these stinkers comprised a material percentage of the units shipped. And I thought that a remanufactured product might have already addressed whatever made that particular unit undesirable.It's now 30 days into the 90-day warranty period and so far my theory has worked. This unit has taken everything I've thrown at it. Leafy vegetables such a kale, hard ones such as carrots, soft fruit, hard fruit, seeds, frozen fruit and ice. The only things I haven't tried are hot liquids (which Breville warns against in any event) and cheese.Assuming the unit continues to work as designed (and I'll update either way) there's a lot to like about this machine. It's a nice size, it doesn't make a lot of noise, some of the presettings are pretty smart and most importantly, as mentioned above, it works really nicely on just about anything. This is a powerful blender that is well designed to pull everything toward its blades. It also disassembles easy which makes it very easy to clean.Why not five stars? The spout is less than perfect and will sometimes dribble. There's an insert on the top of the blender for adding liquids during blending but it comes loose fairly easily. Not so loose that liquid escapes from the blender, but enough to make an annoying rattling sound.But so far I feel like I've got a top quality blender, up there with the Vitamixes and Blendtecs of the world, for a rock bottom price. How can you not like that?A note on the difference between refurbished and remanufactured. When I purchased the unit the helpful description from Breville above was not yet on the product page. I purchased a remanufactured unit, not a refurbished one. I'm glad they cleared up the difference between the two, and of course my review should only apply to the remanufactured version.

Now, I must preface this review by telling you I bought an expensive Blendtec Wildside blender from Amazon and have that as comparison..Despite the fact that this was about a third of the price of the Blentec (about $100 vs $300) this blender knocks the socks off the Blentec. I too have a KithenAid blender that served me well until the rubber coupling gave out and has yet to be replaced (about an $8 part).Back to the subject. This blender has a nice fitting lid which seals shut and drips back I to the jar unlike the Blendtec which neither seals, and drips all over the place. It has a selection of variable speeds but I find just using the set speeds works fine, and pulse seems much more reliable than the Blendtec. And the jar is glass, not plastic.So given the price and superior features, and quite attractive sitting on the counter, if it lasts more than a year, I'll be a happy camper.Quite pleased with this purchase.

Had one it lasted a little longer than it's warranty :-(My wife makes smoothies almost every day; the 600XL was an upgrade from a smaller kitchenaid we'd had for more than 5 years. Well, after a few months of solid use the chrome on the base started to peel off, did not harm the blender just made it look trashy. Then just after it was a year old it started to leak a black oily substance from under it's base (motor). One more mess to keep clean; well it would not wash off our towels, so it's now collecting dust in the garage; replaced by a Kitchenaid architectural series, which I'm happy with.
