Great blender for the price!

For the price you pay, this blender is really great. If you are looking for something to make very icy slushie style drinks, then maybe this one won't cut the job, but I make at least 5 smoothies a week with this thing, throwing in a small handful of ice cubes each time and have no problems. I usually put in some completely frozen berries too, or instead of ice, and have never felt that this smoothie couldn't handle the job I had given it. My husband bought this for me when our Ninja broke (that thing sucked! See my review on that too if you are considering it!), and I think he only paid 30 for it at Target, and that was about 6 months ago. So for long-term value, I guess I can't say too much yet, but with as much as I use this thing, I've been very pleased with it so far. It's easy to clean coming with 6 pieces that need washing each time: clear plastic top to drop in more fruit or ice or whatever, black plastic lid, heavy-duty glass pitcher, blade, rubber seal/ring, and the black plastic screw on base. I say for the price, just try it. If you are looking for something to handle a ton of ice, then I could see investing in something more heavy duty, but for the weekly creamy smoothies or salsas, this machine can handle your needs.

I bought this blender for twenty five bucks at my local Wallyworld after returning the Oster BLSTPB-WBL My Blend 250-Watt Blender, Light Powder Blue which was just too weak (see my review). The purpose is very simple: to make breakfast smoothies consisting of one scoop of whey protein, two bananas, filtered water, and two teaspoons of instant coffee. It does that very well, thought the first two or three times I used it, the motor did emit a weird burning smell.Otherwise it's held up fine, and I am am glad I chose this over its much smaller but also much wimpier cousin. Now, this 450 watt motor isn't going to compete with a $400 industrial blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec by any means, but for my simple needs it does its job just fine and in short order. The burning smell seems to have been a sort of "break-in" thing.HOWEVER, I am a careful user: I don't leave the motor running a second longer than it needs to because I am not one of those neurotic people who demands that their homemade smoothies have the same perfect uniform texture as a store-made smoothie, so for my smoothies consisting of the aforementioned ingredients, I have it going for only 10-15 seconds tops. I don't put any ice in it because I make the smoothie the night before and put it in the fridge so it's already nice and cold when I gulp it down in the morning (I use a Original 28oz Blender Bottle Black so it's easy to re-mix it.Most importantly, I found that instead of using the maximum speed setting, I can get the same results in the same time period using maybe the 8th speed (4th speed button with slider set on "fast")...and that using a lower speed has the added benefit of NOT splattering the ingredients all over the underside of the lid, which means one fewer part to scrub/wash! And I'm sure that using a slower speed will also prolong the life of the motor...I mean, for twenty five bucks I wasn't exactly expecting this to become an heirloom appliance, but using it like this will hopefully get me at least 2-3 years out of it.So really, this is a very decent way to spend twenty five bucks! Love the larger glass jar which is heavier but a lot easier to clean than plastic and doesn't retain odors/stains at all, and the metal gear drive parts between the base and the pitcher blades.

Purchased this blender from Walmart and I've been using it for the past few months. The blades are very sharp (got cut a few times) so it has blended just about anything I've poured in. I use it the most for breaking down panela sugar (unrefined brown sugar), which is a hard block of raw sugar. It grates it pretty well, especially right around the blade area so I usually have to shake and stir it up and blend it again. This is at the highest setting on high.The blender has a smell when you first use it but after a couple of uses, it disappears. Also, the black bottom becomes tough to loosen after usage but I have found that the best way to fix that is to rinse the blender with very warm water and it loosens up.I recommend this blender. Satisfied thus far!
