There is just no comparison
By C. G. King
Professional chefs and establishments use this for a reason. Its motor is built like a tank and works reliably for many years producing stunning results consistently. There are no gimmicks or a dozen extra parts to keep track of. It just simply works as it is because of its stamina, variable speeds and special container design that pulls food into the blades. You do need the included tamper for some things like peanut butter and sorbets or ice creams, but rarely for smoothies once you get used to the most effective method of loading your ingredients. That info is shared on the Getting Started DVD and recipes in the included cookbook show ingredients in the best order to add them to the container. I'm not a recipe person, so I've learned through trial and error, but mostly it's just about putting the juicy things like grapes in first so the vortex can get going quickly. Cleanup is as easy as rinsing it out after using it unless you've made something like dough or peanut butter, then you put water and a drop of soap in it and turn it on for a minute while it cleans itself.Best I can tell, this model is the same as the 7500 except that you get a different cookbook and startup DVD (and it's a very cool cookbook indeed, plus the DVD features Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio), but if that isn't a selling point for you, you can sometimes find the 7500 cheaper. (QVC recently had a deal on it.)This is my second Vitamix. My first, which is now about 14 years old still works fine and has been used often all that time with never a single problem. Now one of my kids will get it. I have been salivating over this new shorter, wider container because I wanted the unit nearer my prep area where the tall container didn't fit. That was okay for smoothies as I just loaded the container and took it to the base on the far counter, but for other things like the soup I made last night, it was a bit awkward to be dropping things in while it was running slowly in order to get a rough chop as I'm not inclined to prep all the pieces before hand like they do on TV demos. I'm a bit more slap-dash about cooking and wanted the unit right there so it could be a seamless operation as I prepped and dropped things in. It was and I'm so pleased. My thick chili soup is delicious and getting all those veggies ready while also browning the meat on the stove and not having to run back and forth made the prep really fast. The container has the same capacity as the tall narrow one and works just as well because the blades are a bit bigger so nothing gets away from them. It is a bit more awkward to hold this wider container since the weight is distributed more out rather than down and the lid, being bigger around, is not quite as handy to maneuver, but if you need it to fit on your counter under your cabinets for storage, it's a fair trade off.I thought I'd dislike the extra side power switch (in addition to the one in front) but it isn't a problem. When the unit is stored that switch is turned off so even if the front switch is inadvertently flipped on it won't start and I'd like to think that if there is a power surge the motor couldn't be damaged either. Then when you pull the unit out for use, you turn that switch on (and two little lights indicate the power is on) although the machine isn't doing anything unless you use the start/stop switch or the pulse switch.I also worried about not having the variable/high switch I was used to (the pulse switch is in that location now) until I read that on my old machine I needed to process some stuff on 'high' because that was when the fan was turned on and kept the motor from overheating whereas in this new unit the fan is always on even at lower speeds so I don't need to worry about that. I prefer setting the variable dial myself and I guess I could have damaged the motor on my old unit but luckily never did. I intend to do a wider range of things with the new model though so am glad for the extra safeguard. This model is different from the 750 in that it doesn't have presets. Some people like that security, but I'd rather do my own thing so I specifically didn't want them. When I make a smoothie I'm probably not following a recipe and feel like I need to run the machine a bit longer if I include things like grapes with hard seeds, ginger or turmeric root, beets or pineapple core, all of which are hard to process. In fact no other blending machine can even handle those things reliably. I insist on a perfectly smooth consistency and I get it with the Vitamix. I am not interested in chewing my smoothie and don't even want little flakes in there when I use greens. My sister was sucked in by a different blender advertisement on TV and it now sits in her basement for that very reason. It can supposedly crush stone but can't make a smooth drink. Same with another unit that makes snow really well, but not smooth smoothies. There certainly is some value to these other units, but the Vitamix is so consistently reliable it's worth every penny. I've had to buy both of mine on payments, but when you divide the length of time the machine continues to serve you into the price, it becomes a bargain. If you have a smaller 32 oz size wet or dry blade container, they will both fit on this base too, but the tamper that comes with this model doesn't fit in the top of the others. I always used the graduated tamper from my tall container as it worked for both the tall and short jars, but since I'll be sending that along with the old machine, I'll have to buy the tamper made just for these smaller containers. All in all, I'm happy I bit the bullet and upgraded to this new model and know I'll get many years of use from it as I have with the other which will go on to serve the younger generation. This is a quality US made product. Don't be fooled by other product demos. They may look good, but based on my experience, Vitamix is the only one that actually delivers what it promises.

I love this machine!
By Sharon N.
I had wanted a Vitamix for decades, should have gotten it sooner. This machine is awesome! I've used it for smoothies, custards, chopping veggies, salsa, cranberry relish, healthy fruit "ice cream", hot soup -- it's used at least once a day and sometimes more. It's easy to clean; a little hot water and some Dawn dishwashing liquid, and turn the machine on for a few seconds -- be sure to have the lid on tight, or it will wash your kitchen ceiling too. Bought mine (through Amazon) from Pro Kitchen Gear, and their customer service is topnotch. I'm already making up a "wish list" to buy from them in the future.

FANTASTIC - Nothing compares to this.
By Annie Blackburn
We have purchased Vitamix's for ourselves and our two homes and we use them at a minimum of once a day for morning green smoothies. Forget about juicing when you can drink all of the greens. They come out like a smoothie. You can put half apples, frozen fruit, big chunks of cucumber, celery, bell pepers or whatever you want along with a little liquid, turn it on and it will devour them in no time and transform them into a big, healthy drink. We are upgrading to this one. We LOVE our Vitamix 5200 but want this one now. I have never known anyone who has owned one that does not love theirs. So, if you haven't indulged in one, go for it! The cost is high, but the quality can't been beat. You get what you pay for. It just is an amazing piece of machinery.
