Lack of Full Disclosure in Description

This blender works pretty well in making smoothies with frozen ingredients, although I usually have 1-2 chunks left at the end after several button pushes (I make VERY thick shakes though). Also, the condition is okay, even if the blender itself is very scratched up (it's refurbished, so that makes sense). The big problem I had was this: I looked the blender up on the mfg. website and printed a chart of all the programs I could do with it. Then I ordered it. When I got it, I discovered that it could NOT be programmed, the settings are all fixed. I called Blendtec. According to them, these blenders came from a chain of coffee shoppes. Blendtec refurbished them for the coffee shoppes, then the coffee shoppes are liquidating them. Note this: Blendtec could not say how long the coffee shoppes had them before selling them. So these blenders were not refurbished just now, they were refurbished possibly a long time ago. Furthermore, Blendtec wants $350 to take the blender back and reprogram it. Ouch! In summary, the blender may work just fine for you. But who knows how long it will last and good luck being stuck with the default settings. Pulse 1 is 30%, Pulse 2 is 70%. Button 1 program is 30%/60%, Button 2 is 30%/70% (something like that, may not be exactly correct). Anyways, I know 70% was the max you can go based on how those buttons are set up. Must have been setup for coffee drinks exclusively. If you only make coffee drinks you might be very happy with this blender if it lasts. 2 stars because it does work pretty well and is a good value for a commercial product built to last, but too many concerns as above. I'm returning mine.

NOT Manufacturer Refurbished!

I have never given a 1-star rating solely on the performance of the seller, instead believing a rating should be on the item itself, but in this case I made an acception. People need to know how crooked this seller is. I love Blendtec and this blender, although VERY USED, was awsome. My actual rating/review of the blender is at the very bottom. Thanks for reading!Anyway.... I purchased this item for the two hundred fifty price August 19th or so 2011. I thought I was getting a great deal and THOUGHT I was getting a "manufacturer refurbished" item. "Manufacturer refurbished" means the item is completely gone over by the manufacturer, in this case Blendtec, and made sellable again. When the item arrived & I pulled it out of the box I was hugely disappointed. I knew the ad stated that the unit would show *some* signs of use, but this was terrible! The plastic noise shield was cracked and scratched in several places. A metal rod was sticking out from the hinge. The blender jar was cloudy from use and cracked in the lower base area. The buttons were heavily used and #2 was black with over-use. Inside the box was also a dark photocopied users manual. I called Blendtec to ask about their "manufacturer refurbished" items and they told me that they DO NOT REFURBISH ANY Commercial blenders. There you go- VM Innovations clearly mis-represented this item as having been refurbished directly by Blendtec.When I did a test blend with only ice it worked fabulously and I loved Blendtec forever at that moment! However, when I let the ice melt, the resulting water had black gunk floating in it. Clearly something was wrong with the jar, perhaps dry rot or oil, or who knows what. If I did end up keeping the machine what the heck would I be drinking???? I am guessing it would not have been healthy.I contacted both Amazon.com and VM Innovations to tell them of my dissatisfaction. Amazon took it upon themselves to open up an A to Z guarantee claim in my name for this item. The seller VM Innovations first offered me $25 to keep the item. When I told them that they fraudulently misrepresented the blender as being refurb by the manufacturer they then upped the refund to $75! Very tempting, but need I remind myself that there was black junk in my blender water? I think not. I initiated my refund immediately and ended up paying $20 to return the item. I did receive a full refund BUT I am out the $20 return shipping. No thanks to Amazon who would not fight my case for the shipping to be refunded as well. How can this business operate this way under Amazon? How can Amazon clearly ignore the facts of how this seller operates? And how can a company who sends misrepresented items not be held accountable for return shipping? Needless to say Amazon took it upon themselves again to close my A to Z claim as well since I was issued the refund. Way to go Amazon! Thank you for your support!This transaction has left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth for dealing with Amazon in the future. I have never had any problems with a seller before, nor have I ever had any problems with Amazon as a company, but I will surely think twice before purchasing an item though Amazon.com ever again. My suggestion to all potential Blendtec Blender buyers is to 1) watch e b a y closely and buy a used one from someone with a 5-star rating and excellent feedback. 2) check c r a i g s l i s t for a local listing where you can check the item out personally. 3) buy a brand new home blender from b e d b a t h a n d b e y o n d with a 20% off coupon! 7 year warranty that way, going brand new! Its what I did in the end.Like I said I fell in love with Blendtec on that first blend of ice which honestly turned the cubes into an almost instant snowball! I truly believe that the commercial blender far out performs the home blender, but for my own peace of mind I wanted the warranty, so I went with a brand new home blendtec blender. I will continue to look for a good used commercial machine, but in the mean time will use the home machine.The commercial blender had the noise shroud which really did help lower the noise level. Compared to the home unit I think it made a huge difference and wish it was an option for the home machine. The commercial blender had an all metal base which seemed very sturdy and was assuring. The home unit has a plastic four prong base. The base I am talking about is the actual square four prong area of the blender machine that the blender jar rests on. I don't think the plastic will be a problem, but I was indeed surprised that with the cost of this home unit it was not made of metal also. I noticed Blendtec changed the design of their lids and I prefer the old design. The one that came with this commercial blender was a solid piece whereas the brand new home blender lid is in two pieces which detach from each other for further cleaning. If Blendtec had kept their old style there would be no need to even separate anything as the one-piece lid cleaned very easily already. I believe this new two-piece lid design makes for longer clean up and adds an extra step to the clean up process. The brand new home machine came with a very nice instruction book, spiral bound, which included many recipes. The commercial unit users manual was only for operating, there were no recipes or instructions as to how to use the unit or what button did what. You have four visible buttons on the commercial unit and no idea which one to use. I figured since #2 had been used so much it was worn, I would try that number and it worked very well for crushing the ice, but I have no idea what the other buttons did. Also on this particular model you can see in the pictures only four buttons. I read somewhere (a little too late) that there are two "ghost" buttons in between the four. Had I known about this feature before I returned the blender I would have tried them out to see if it were true. And finally, the blender jar was evidently made specifically for Starbucks as it was labeled with "tall", "grande", and "venti", instead of the standard liquid ounce measurements. So if you buy this item you may never actually know how much liquid you are using and may have to use a measuring cup to do all of your measurements prior to adding your smoothie ingredients. I use the ounce markings on my new blender jar all of the time. I know that 4oz of liquid for my smoothies is just the right amount and I am sure if you measured once to find the amount you use and remember where it landed, then it would be no problem. Also since the item is used it wouldn't hurt to use a sharpie and mark these on the outside of your jar. Both machines have a smoothie counter, or mix counter. This machine will keep track of how many times you use the mixer. The used counter has been reset by VM Innovations. What I have found with the brand new unit though is that EVERY time you press the button it counts as a mix. So when you pulse your drink for extra smoothness, it counts every time you take your finger off and back on. This would rather be counting how many "uses" your machine & motor has gone through, but does not give you an accurate count of how many smoothies you have made or may have drunk in a year. Just in case you wanted to keep track. There is no pause button either. So if you find that you forgot to add something or you need to stir your mixture mid mix, it just starts over at the beginning for how ever many seconds that programmed button is for.RECAP:Used commercial Blendtec:Used, worn sound cover.Used jar, no ounce markings.One-piece lid.Users manual with troubleshooting guide only, no other instructions.Four visible power buttons.
